Keys To Change
Saturday, June 20th, 2009“The key to the ability to change is a changeless sense of who you are, what you are about and what you value.”
This quote, which was brought to my attention again at The Change Blog (follow the link to see The Change Blog reviewed on Do You Digg It), is originally from empowerment author Stephen R. Covey; it seems a little contradictory on the surface, but quickly makes sense if you put your mind to it.
Know Thy Self
Developing the ability to create wealth entails an ability to change your way of thinking, your attitudes, and your actions that have hindered your ability to build wealth up until now. So yes, we all need to change something in order to create wealth.
What seems ironic about this quote, although it really is not, is that in order to be able to effect effective change you need to develop a solid core of who you are. You need to get infinitely comfortable with that self, and always be grounded in it.
Changeless Sense Of Self
This sense of self needs to be so firmly rooted that the core of who you are—your core goals and values—will not change regardless of the experiences that you encounter. Why is this important? Primarily because we all need a compass that we can use to point and guide our decisions and actions. That needs to be compatible with our real selves, because when we makes choices and take actions that are against ourselves, they have no “staying power”. Wealth built in contradiction to our own true selves is not sustainable, and so if you build wealth this way, you are only destined to end up back at the same place you started from.
You will enjoy your wealth much more if you can feel good about it. Get intimate with your own thoughts, decide what your changeless self is, and use that as the strongest foundation you could have for building wealth.
