On Sacrifice

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

A lot of people, especially when starting out on a plan for creating wealth, think of the effort as a sort of sacrifice. The idea of sacrificing is what keeps a lot of people from working to build wealth, so let’s talk about that a little.

The Irony Of Wealth Sacrifice

It seems a little ironic that you would have to sacrifice to build wealth, especially considering the Law of Attraction wherein wealth attracts wealth. That’s understandable but it’s also just plain life. Our lives are so jam-packed with things to do, obligations and commitments to others and to paid slavery jobs, that there seems like there is no room for anything else, even if it is something of great benefit to us (like creating wealth) that will allow us to free our time and take control of our lives (like wealth creation).

Part of the reason that it seems so ironic and difficult to commit to is that we think of this in slightly incorrect terms; when you work to build wealth, even if you give up some of your ‘spare’ time or ‘free’ money, you are not really sacrificing it (as in, it is not dead or gone to you), you are simply changing and exchanging it for something else—something that is actually far better and with much better potential for you.

Truth In Perspective

Sacrificing has a very negative connotation, and for good reason. What you are doing as you build wealth is not sacrificing a life that is working for you, you are giving up something that isn’t for something that is better; that something is also the one thing that makes your best, truest life possible. When you think of it that way, that hardly sounds like a sacrifice anymore, now does it? Considered in its real perspective, wealth creation, even at a ‘cost’, is a much more attractive undertaking!

Why Does Wealth Creation Overwhelm You?

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

If you find that creating wealth overwhelms you, you are not alone. And if you find it difficult to overcome that feeling, you are not alone, either. Why is this the case? And how can you get beyond it? You might start by first analyzing what the emotion of overwhelm really is.

Why We Feel Overwhelmed

The reason that we feel overwhelmed by new tasks is that they feel too large. They are just too big to wrap our minds around them, and so we feel like the job is impossible.

There is another element that contributes to that feeling of being overwhelmed. It is the desire to get through it all now. To want to be done with it, to be at the end, to have reached the pinnacle and disburse with the work of it. There’s nothing wrong with wanting that, with having a high level of motivation to achieve your goals. Unfortunately, that’s just not realistic. You have to put the work in if you want to enjoy the rewards—you have to invest something to reap the benefits and become wealthy.

Get A Grip On Being Overwhelmed

Knowing this is half the battle, as it always is. Gaining a perspective and knowing what you are up against is the way to combat feelings of overwhelm and anxiety. When you understand that feeling overwhelmed is simply a reaction to wanting to be at the end and be wealthy, then you can begin to rationalize the situation and tell yourself what you need to hear to stay motivated towards wealth. You can recognize the tasks as necessary steps to getting rich; you can break those tasks down into smaller, more manageable tasks, and you can set smaller interim goals to help you along the way.

Being overwhelmed is just another emotion. When you learn to control it, you can enjoy great success in creating wealth and being financially prosperous. You can be rich!

Work To Live Or Live to Work

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Are you devoted to your paychequeDo you work to live or live to work? This is a question that came up on a blog the other day. Granted, it’s not the first time the question has been asked and unfortunately it won’t be the last, either. Until you learn how to take control of you financial future, this will always be a quandary you live with.

Cultural Implications Of the Work Ethic

The proportion of our lives that is devoted to work is in part cultural. In other words, some cultures dedicate more of their lives to work than others. Americans are famous for it, but increasingly Australians, British, and people from all countries are losing that focus and becoming entirely consumed by their work. It seems as though with globalization and the now global nature of always-on ecommerce that the cultures that used to have a pulse on what was really important in life are losing that perspective and falling slave to the paycheque. It seems that the harder we try to simplify our financial control and build wealth for a better life, the worse we do at it.

Can We Change The Way We Work?

So the question is, with more and more people living to work instead of working to live, can the cycle be broken? Or are we at risk of perpetuating a life focused on work for pay?

When we speak in terms of the majority, it would appear that we are at risk of doing just that. And it’s really such a shame, because with the opportunities available to us for creating wealth and becoming financially free without missing out on life, we should be trending more and more towards that life of freedom. We can do it. We all can do it. But we do have to first take stock of our lives, and reset our financial programming. First, we need to commit ourselves to working only to support life, so that in time we can minimize the work, and maximize the living.
