Renting Stocks: The Pros And Cons
Renting stocks is an investment strategy. This idea has other names that it goes by as well. These names are a covered call or renting shares. It is done as a way of producing income on a stock that you as the investor, who will be renting stocks, can reap quick benefits. There are both benefits and downfalls to using this strategy. However as with any type of investing there is no certainty as to how the market will perform and this could leave you doing well or poorly with your renting stocks strategy.
When an investor is renting stocks it is a simple process. They write a call option on a specific asset that they have and attempt to use this option as a way of producing more money for themselves. By writing this call option for the purpose of renting stocks they are giving other investors the opportunity to purchase there assets at a set price. Of course the other investors would have to pay a fee for the opportunity to do this.
There are benefits to renting stocks; one of these is the ability to hold on to your assets if they do not reach the price that was written in call option. Not only do you get to maintain your asset, but you will also receive the premium that was included by the other investors for the right to obtain your stock if it had gone higher than the posted price on the call option. Another benefit is that your renting stocks strategy may work if the stock comes in at less than your original purchase price, but you feel that it has much better long term potential than short term. Not only does this mean that you will be keeping your assets, but again you get to maintain your premium.
The one downside to a renting stocks strategy is if the asset performs better than the call option list. This means that you only make the call option price and the premium and you are left with less than the potential income you could have earned because the purchaser of the option was able to buy the stock at a discounted price. It is true in most cases you are writing the option at a higher price than what was paid when using a renting stocks strategy; however there could have been a profit margin if the stock had been traded in a traditional method.
