Surviving a Bear Market

Everyone knows that there are ups and downs that are experienced on the stock market every day, and there will come a time when the economy causes a slip into a bear market.  However, rather than dread the occurrence, it would be much more valuable to look at how to survive through this time without losing any investment money in the stock market.  Here are some steps to get through the harsh times.

  1. Hang in there.  Don’t panic during a bear market and start selling off shares at a loss.  The more sales there are, the farther the value will drop, causing the bear market to continue on its downward spiral and making matters worse.  The stocks you hold aren’t liquid assets, so your net worth is not reduced drastically during these stints.  If you leave your investments as they are, the stock will usually recover, and everything will be just fine.
  2. Use the time wisely.  A bear market means good investment opportunities.  With stock values on a downslide, it is a good time to begin purchasing securities for the reduced prices.  This will help in two ways.  First, when the market recovers, these stocks will go up in value, and you will make a killing off them.  Second, in a bear market, it is essential for investors to reinfuse the market with new investments, showing that there is still interest and funding corporations.  This will lead to a rebound in the market, automatically causing stock values to again begin to rise.
  3. Take a break.  If you are constantly following the occurrences on the bear market, it could lead to frustration, anger, nervousness, and eventually impatience.  These qualities are not only bad for your health but also for your investment IQ, bringing it down a few notches so that you begin to make bad decisions.  If you ignore the happenings and wait for news of a rebound, you are less likely to cause yourself a huge loss.

Following these tips is a good start to making it through a bear market.  Using this advice will not only save you an incredible amount of loss but also your sanity!
